Inanimate Objects & Me
I have an inherent need to name things. Perhaps I need to have relationships with my inanimate objects... they are pretty low-maintenance relationships anyway. I've kinda wondered if people think I'm crazy- I talk to my cars. Openly. They didn't really have names, until recently. I loved the cute, spunky Beetle. I felt fast and furious in my Mazda. I would always pat the dash if they were having a hard time in the heat or having various technical malfunctions. Those poor people who drove past, catching a glimpse of me patting my car- they must have wanted off the road fast!
But when my new car started talking to me (via the navigation system) I felt compelled to name her Lexi. We have a complicated relationship. She thinks she's always right. And she probably thinks I'm a moron. But I'm the one who knows the new road and freeway openings... we fight sometimes. But as long as we get home safe- we stay pretty good friends.

Ha! My pesky GPS is named Bart. He swears he has one hardwired into his brain. I don't, so I'm sure I frustrate him to no end. But just like Lexi as long as we get home safe & sound all is good right?
ReplyDeleteI love my Nav! Seriously, she can berate me all she wants . . . we always end up at the right place. I'm not sure how I'd make it without her. I don't have a name, though. I'll have to come up with one.
ReplyDeleteNavigation system = Samantha. It's a love/hate relationship. :-)I too love to give my vehicles a little extra attention, they run much better than the non-loved ones.
ReplyDeleteI've never been one to name inanimate objects, because I feel dumb, but I think it's cool when people do and it's just normal for them.
