If you are like me, once you get the kids all snuggled up (and quiet) in their beds, the only thing you wanna do is lay on the couch and be amused by the idiot box for a couple hours before heading to bed yourself. It automatically makes the day a little better when I know that some good shows are tucked away in my DVR just waiting for the end of the day.
With that understanding, you can probably see why (among many other reasons) summer is not my favorite time of year. The summer schedule is notorious for being riddled with new shows that are so bad they are cancelled after two episodes, re-runs, and just nothing. (ie: The Bachelorette, So You Think You Can Dance, America's Got Talent, etc.) I've got some handy little summer shows that I'm glad are making a return. Watch them! (before they get cancelled!)
The Good Guys: (Fox) I am a sucker for Tom Hanks' son, Colin. He's fantastic in this role. It's funny, but riveting too. The pilot had this hi-larious Columbian drug smuggler, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding herself was a guest star!
Royal Pains: (USA) This is the second season. So glad to see it back! It's a little quirky- the brother is kind of annoying. But the whole premise about private doctors in the Hamptons is just delicious.
Pawn Stars: (Hist.) My Dad got me into this- and since it's based in Vegas, I decided to give it a whirl. Addictive! It's crazy the kinds of things people bring in- and what they haggle down to!
Kate Plus Eight: (TLC) Yes, I know. But I got asked about The Gosselins and Octomom every time I took the twins out. So I at least have to know what I'm talking about. Plus, it makes my life look a whole lot more calm and collected.
The Next Food Network Star: (Food) This show makes me (1) hungry and (2) feel like I could be a chef. (which is completely preposterous)
Design Star: (HGTV) Also falls into the addictive category. I want to see some horrible color choices! Some failed tiling projects! Some designers completely losing it trying to decorate with items from a grocery store! That's what summer TV is all about.
Leverage: (TNT) Yes. This series is smart, keeps your mind on its toes, and is just so freakin' fun! I love the crazy blonde, the hilarious hacker. Everyone. Taking corporations down a notch? Yes, please!
The OCD Project: (VH1) Feeling a little crazy? This show will make you feel sane! It's interesting to see what goes into the treatment of OCD. Also a bit sad to see what these people's world revolve around. Makes me glad I can flip a lightswitch off and walk away.
So there is just a smattering for you. Have fun on those couches. Grab your ice cold Fresca and enjoy the ridiculous heat of the outdoors by sitting directly under the air vent.
Oooo... I am pulling myself out of deep depression of no tv nights and actually having to converse with my husband! Thanks for the suggestions, but please do not forget my man, my hero- Adam w/ Man vs. Food!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am taking personal insult to the fact that you think So You Think You Can Dance is nothing. I swear that is the only TV show I watch and find even the least bit amusing.
ReplyDeleteLove Design Star, and I've been thinking about catching up on Royal Pains. I do a lot of tv-on-dvd in the summer. That 'Persons Unknown' show looks kind of intriguing, but I think I missed the pilot. Oops!
